A QX employee will accompany you while
you travel in Ahmedabad. Your travel will begin on a
quiet stretch of the Sabarmati River – at the Gandhi Ashram, which was established in 1920.
During the lifetime of Mahatma Gandhi, it was known as Satyagraha Ashram and was the centre
of the struggle for Independence. It was from here, in 1930, that the Mahatma started on
his famous "Dandi March" to the sea to protest against the Salt Tax. 'Hridaya Kunj', the
simple cottage where he lived, is preserved as a National Monument. A Gandhi Memorial Centre,
a Library, and comprehensive original photographs of the Father of the Nation offer an
insightful expedition into the Mahatma's life and work. |

After all that travelling, we are sure you will enjoy the evening relaxing at your hotel. Or maybe tour the city’s markets?
Good morning!
You start the day with a visit to one of the most important forts in India – the Agra Red Fort, a UNESCO World
Heritage site. The great Mughals Babur, Humayun, Akbar, Jehangir, Shah Jahan and Aurangzeb lived here while
governing the country. It contained the largest state treasury and mint. This is also where Emperor Shah Jahan was
kept under house arrest by his third son Aurangzeb. Shah Jahan spent the last year of his life here viewing the Taj
Mahal from across the river Jamuna.
|
After lunch, it is time for another UNESCO World Heritage site – Fatehpur Sikri (Town of Victory). It was built in
honour of Sufi saint Salim Chishti in 1571 by Mughal emperor Akbar and is regarded as
Emperor Akbar's crowning architectural legacy. Indeed, its numerous palaces, halls, and mosques satisfy his creative
and aesthetic impulses, typical of Mughals. This city generally captures the imagination and wonder of all who
experience its urban spaces and see its buildings. Charles and Ray Eames cited Fatehpur Sikri in the landmark 'India
Report' that led to the conception of the National Institute of Design, India's premiere design school.
